The Evolution of Social Media in Business

The Evolution of Social Media in Business

The evolution of social media in business has become an essential part of modern business strategies. Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Instagram has become some of the leading marketing tools for businesses. There are many companies and small business ventures that rely on social media to get 50% and even 100% of their clients. This means that they need to learn how to use the most recent social media features to maintain a relevant status within the network.

Why do these businesses rely on social media? Well, social media is increasingly becoming the mode of communication for most people. This means there is always a stream of traffic going through these social media sites. Business owners are able to target specific audience based on specific interests; hence, locking in sales. Another social media avenue I did not mention above but is increasing its presence in the marketing world is YouTube. A lot more customers are now turning to YouTube for reviews, product usage, or how-to videos. In turn, companies are increasingly providing popular YouTube users with samples of their product for them to review. This help capture customers. Small business entrepreneurs are turning to “vlogs” (video blogs) to bring traffic to their business.

The use of broadcasting features has been a huge change in social media because people can now watch live feeds from those they follow. This allows for a much more powerful connection with your audience and this builds your brand and boosts loyalty.  More importantly, small businesses have realized the benefits of using social media for marketing. Some of these benefits include brand loyalty. It gives customers a sense of belonging. It makes customers feel closer to the brand they believe in.

Small businesses also need to be very careful when it comes to social media. Companies have attempted to insert themselves on topics that are sensitive which sometimes causes a backlash. Some companies have lost loyal customers because of tweets or Facebook post. Just like any communities, social media is very powerful. If this power is not used properly, it can be very detrimental to the business.

While it can help businesses expand their brand and communicate directly with their customers, social media can also be a downfall for business that are not careful on how they use it. Although it can strengthen the relationship between businesses and customers, it can also break it.

Social media has made it much easier for small businesses to penetrate through communities which they would not have been able to before. It provides them a way to expand across the globe. Because of that, it can make or break these companies. The marketing aspect of social media is the best features that small business can take advantage of to obtain sales.
